Claap was launched in 2021 as an asynchronous video tool—a sort of French version of Loom. Five years and a complete pivot later, it has become a revenue intelligence platform acquired by lemlist, which promises to transform every one of your sales calls into data that can be leveraged by your CRM and AI agents.

The offer is tempting, but the free plan is just a token gesture, and the plans that really justify the purchase start at €48 per user per month.

Can Claap replace Modjo for a French sales team? Are Smart Tables a true game-changer or just a clever marketing gimmick? And what difference does the acquisition by lemlist make if you don’t use lemlist?

Our Review of Claap: A Summary

Perimeter Score Our opinion
Overall rating 4,2 Claap fills a gap between free note-taking apps and AI-powered quote conversation platforms. It’s an excellent option for small and medium-sized businesses that want to streamline their sales conversations without an enterprise-level budget.
Adoption and Simplicity 4,6 Up and running in just a few minutes, self-service, with no deployment project required. The interface is crystal clear, and sales reps can start using it right away without any training. This is its clearest advantage over the next tier up.
Data and CRM Enrichment 4,4 Automatic data entry into the CRM (including custom fields) works very well, and Smart Tables turn your calls into a searchable database. This is the product’s most interesting feature.
AI Coaching 4,0 Each call is scored according to your methodology (MEDDIC, SPICED, BANT, or your own), with speaking time and objections tagged. Effective for coaching at scale, but less in-depth than Modjo for a call review program led by managers.
Quality-price ratio 4,1 Public pricing, with no commitment and no setup fees — which is rare in this market. But the free plan is negligible, and all the commercial features are reserved for the Business plan at €48.
Integrations 4,0 HubSpot, Salesforce, Attio, and Pipedrive for CRM; Aircall and Ringover for phone services; plus Slack, Notion, Zapier, Make, and n8n. Broad in scope for the target audience, though it doesn’t match the depth of Gong’s ecosystem.

Claap offers a free plan that doesn’t require a credit card, which is enough to evaluate the interface and the quality of the transcripts. To test the commercial features of the Business plan, you’ll need to request a trial from the team.

Claap: Three Lives in Four Years (And Why This Matters to You)

To properly evaluate Claap, it is important to understand the tool’s origins. Its history explains both its most unique strengths and its main area of uncertainty:

  • First Incarnation, 2021. Robin Bonduelle and Pierre Touzeau — a former 360Learning employee raised on the “zero-meeting” culture — launched an asynchronous video collaboration platform. The pitch at the time can be summed up in one phrase: a mix of Loom, Gong, and YouTube for startups. Kima Ventures (Xavier Niel’s fund), LocalGlobe, and Headline are contributing $3 million to the round.
  • Second chapter: the pivot. The asynchronous video market was shrinking (Loom itself was eventually acquired by Atlassian in late 2023), so Claap shifted its focus entirely to sales teams. Call recording, AI notes, CRM enrichment, coaching: growth continues, profitably, with approximately 700 customers by the fall of 2025 and clients such as Qonto, Revolut, Payfit, and Brevo.
  • Third Life: October 20, 2025, lemlist acquires Claap. An eight-figure transaction, entirely self-funded by a scale-up that has never raised a single euro, with the exit of its founding investors. The official term for this is “smartbound”: buying signals detected in your conversations trigger targeted outreach sequences at just the right moment—a far cry from mass marketing campaigns.

Why does this story matter to you?

  • First, because legacy video content hasn’t disappeared: Claap offers editing, montage, clip-sharing, and video library features that no other competitor in its category provides.
  • Second, because the acquisition raises a real question about the buyer. Development efforts and the roadmap are accelerating, while prices and contracts remain officially unchanged — but there’s no guarantee that product priorities won’t gradually shift toward the lemlist ecosystem.

If you’re already using lemlist, that’s a very positive sign. If not, it’s something to keep an eye on, and we’ll come back to it in the verdict.

What really sets Claap apart: your conversations become a database

By 2026, recording and transcribing a call is no longer a differentiator. Fathom does it for free, Teams and Meet do it natively, and your CRM is starting to do it too. The battle has shifted to what we do with the data.

The traditional approach generates a report for each call — neatly organized records that are opened one by one. Claap’s approach is different: each conversation feeds into “Smart Tables,” where each call becomes a row and each piece of information extracted by the AI becomes a column.

In practice, you define a field (budget mentioned, competitor cited, urgency level, decision-maker identified), and Claap automatically fills it in for each new call.

Two features make the system truly powerful:

  • The fields apply retroactively. If you create a “competitor mention” field today, Claap will apply it to your entire call history. As your qualification process evolves, your data adapts — without having to listen to any calls again.
  • The data is aggregated by deal and by account, then synced to HubSpot or Salesforce. A query such as “all deals lost in Q2 where Salesforce was cited as a competitor” yields a result in just a few seconds.

The second building block is the MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standardized connector that allows external AI agents — such as Claude, ChatGPT, or lemlist agents — to query your structured conversation data directly, rather than 40-page transcripts.

You can generate a competitive battlecard based on your actual calls, build a follow-up sequence using the exact context of the last exchange, or analyze your recurring objections from the quarter. Claap’s MCP has been in production since June 2025, about a year ahead of its direct competitors.

Salesdorado’s opinion
This is Claap’s most interesting offering and the most advanced in its market. But let’s be honest: without at least some interest in AI agents or someone to act as a RevOps engineer, you’ll only be able to utilize a fraction of this system’s potential. If your needs are limited to automated reporting, a simple note-taker will suffice, and at a much lower cost.

Bot-free recording: great for sales, but requires legal oversight

Claap records natively on Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, without any “ghost participants” in the meeting. Calls made through Aircall or Ringover are captured at the source, and email threads related to the deal are synced. A Chrome extension, a desktop app, and a mobile app handle the rest, including in-person meetings via import or direct recording. There are no blind spots in the recording — which is rare. And in practice, it changes the atmosphere of video meetings.

But this convenience comes with a responsibility. A visible bot effectively informs participants that they are being recorded. Native recording does not. Claap automatically notifies participants and provides recording indicators as well as consent management tools, but as the publisher itself states: ultimate compliance remains your responsibility.

Warning
In France, as in most European countries, recording a sales conversation without informing the other party puts you at risk under the GDPR and privacy laws. This tool helps you provide notification; it does not give consent on your behalf. Discuss the matter with your legal counsel before deployment, not after the first complaint from a prospect.

On a daily basis: The CRM fills itself out; every call is monitored

The core of the value proposition is the elimination of post-call administrative tasks.

After each meeting, Claap generates notes structured according to the appropriate template (introductory meeting, demo, renewal meeting) and updates the CRM records — including custom fields — in HubSpot, Salesforce, Attio, or Pipedrive. It also drafts the follow-up email in your style.

When it comes to coaching, the philosophy is quite different from Modjo’s. Rather than equipping managers with tools for call reviews, Claap uses AI to evaluate each conversation: a scorecard based on your sales framework, a breakdown of speaking time, and automatically identified objections.

Every sales rep receives feedback on every call, without having to involve anyone else. This is a powerful sales enablement tool if you’re a small team without a full-time sales director. For an organization that has built its coaching program around managerial call reviews, this is a cultural shift to anticipate.

Our test did reveal a few issues:

  • The summaries are thorough for structured calls, but sometimes remain superficial for disjointed conversations. We have also observed unbalanced summaries when one participant dominates the conversation.
  • Transcription, which is excellent under ideal conditions and available in 99 languages, still struggles with strong accents and highly specialized technical jargon.

Nothing that would be a deal-breaker for the target audience. But if your meetings with international counterparts last 90 minutes, be sure to test it thoroughly before signing.

Claap’s pricing: easy to understand, but the real Claap starts at €48

Claap publicly lists its prices, with no mandatory annual commitment or deployment fees. In this market, that in itself is a unique selling point.

Plan Pricing (annual billing) Key Takeaways
Basic €0 10 recordings and a total of 300 minutes (not per month), with 3 months of storage. A trial plan that sold out within a week of going on sale.
Pro 24 € per user per month Unlimited recordings, capped at 1,000 minutes per month; 500 AI credits per license; advanced summaries and custom prompts. An excellent, enhanced note-taking tool.
Business 48 € per user per month Unlimited duration, 1,000 AI credits per license. This is where CRM auto-fill, AI coaching, Smart Tables, deal insights, and automated follow-up emails all come together.
Enterprise On request SSO, SCIM, unlimited Basic licenses, and customized onboarding and migration. For organizations with stringent security requirements.

There are a few nuances worth noting before you reach for your calculator:

  • AI credits are pooled at the workspace level, which provides flexibility between heavy and light users.
  • You can also mix and match licenses within the same workspace: your sales reps on the Business plan, and observers (management, marketing, product) on the free Basic plan. Smart.
  • One final, rather surprising detail: the free trial of the paid plans is unlocked by contacting the sales team — a bit of a paradox for a tool that touts self-service as a key differentiator from Modjo.
Salesdorado’s review
The €24 Pro plan is a very good note-taking tool — nothing more. All of Claap’s marketing promises are realized in the €48 Business plan, and that’s the price you should keep in mind when comparing. At this price point, Claap remains significantly more affordable than a platform that requires a quote and an annual commitment, but don’t expect to equip your entire team for the price of a single note-taking tool.

Claap, Modjo, or Fathom: How to Choose

Claap is fighting on two fronts at once, and that’s exactly what makes it an interesting choice.

Next up are the AI note-taking tools. Fathom offers unlimited recording and transcription for free, while Claap’s free plan runs out in just a few days. If all you need is automatic note-taking, don’t pay €48.

Above that are the intelligent conversation platforms. Modjo, the French market leader, goes further than Claap in terms of pipeline analytics and call review workflows, offering deployment support that many structured organizations truly need. But pricing is based on a quote, with an annual commitment. And the product is designed for teams where managers provide coaching by listening back to calls. Gong operates in the same space, but at an even higher price point.

Criterion Claap Modjo Fathom
Ideal for SMEs and mid-market companies looking to organize their conversation data Organizations with a formal management coaching program Freelancers and teams who just want meeting summaries
Price Public, starting at 1 user, no commitment Based on a quote, annual commitment Unlimited free access; paid plans available for team features
Main limitation Less in-depth analytics, uncertainty regarding the list High budget and implementation costs for an SME No deal intelligence or coaching

What we like (and don’t like)

  • Immediate adoption: up and running in just a few minutes, with no deployment plan or training required. No other conversational intelligence platform can match it on this metric.
  • A truly comprehensive recording solution: video calls without bots, Aircall and Ringover phone calls, emails, and in-person interactions via mobile. All transcribed in 99 languages with speaker identification.
  • Smart Tables: the shift from a report file to a searchable database with retroactive AI fields. That’s why they’re worth more than a note-taker.
  • MCP has been in production since June 2025: Your AI agents analyze your conversations directly, putting you a year ahead of your direct competitors.
  • Transparent, cancellable pricing in a market dominated by opaque quotes and annual commitments.
  • Video legacy: editing, shareable clips, and a library of sales pitches. No one else offers this in this segment, and it’s invaluable for onboarding sales reps.
  • A free trial plan: 10 recordings and a total of 300 minutes — barely enough to get a feel for it.
  • The full version starts at €48: CRM, coaching, Smart Tables, and insights are all included only in the Business plan.
  • Slow processing times for long recordings and summaries that may lack depth when conversations are disjointed.
  • The transcription could be improved in terms of pronounced accents and highly technical jargon.
  • Less comprehensive than Modjo or Gong in terms of pipeline analytics and managerial coaching workflows.
  • The Lemlist unknown: there is no guarantee that the roadmap will continue to prioritize customers outside the ecosystem in the long term.

Our verdict: Who is Claap designed for?

Claap is right for you if:

  • You lead a sales team of 3 to 50 people who sell via video calls and over the phone
  • Your CRM is HubSpot, Salesforce, Attio, or Pipedrive, and post-call data entry is taking up hours of your time every week
  • Your phone system runs on Aircall or Ringover (the screenshot is native)
  • Are you interested in AI agents (or are you already a Lemlist customer and interested in Smartbound synergies)?
  • Do you want same-day deployment, without a project or a consultant?

Skip it if :

  • All you need is an automatic meeting summary (Fathom does this for free)
  • Your organization provides coaching through managerial call reviews with an enterprise-level budget (Modjo or Gong are better equipped for this)
  • Your Modjo call history is too valuable to start over from scratch
  • Your typical appointments last more than an hour with people who have very strong accents: be sure to test the service thoroughly before committing

Final rating: 4.2/5. Claap is currently the best option for a French small or medium-sized business that wants to transition from note-taking to revenue intelligence without an enterprise-level budget. Bot-free registration, a CRM that populates itself, and Smart Tables combine to create a unique offering in this price segment. The acquisition by lemlist brings resources and a coherent vision, though the future of standalone customers remains uncertain — a question that will only be answered over the next twelve months. In the meantime, the free plan and lack of commitment make this a low-risk bet.
